Over the weekend the kids and I participated on the 24 hour marathon and music fest held annually here on Patch. It is a fundraiser for the various youth programs on the base. This year they raised over $26,000! Part of the fun is all the kids pitch tents on the football field and spend the night. Each organizations that registers has to have at least one person on the track at all times (walking or running). A trophy is given to the group that records the most laps. Cross Country has come close in the past but has never one. This year they took 1st place with over 3600 laps (on our field 3 laps equals 1 mile). I personally contributed 28 miles to the cause. I don't think the kids were that far behind me. It was alot of fun, especailly in the wee hours of the morning when nobody was thinking straight!! I wish I had gotten a picture of the football team when they came out dressed in all their gear and ran some laps (for the cross country team, of course!!) Now that my legs have recovered, I can't wait until next year!
